Multiethnic metropolises, as symbols of the complexities of the contemporary world, are dynamic spaces of interaction, confrontation, and coexistence among diverse cultures, religions, and identities. Managing these metropolises requires a deep understanding of social dynamics and the adoption of flexible, holistic approaches. This situation highlights the need to redefine the indicators of good urban governance to reduce tensions and strengthen peaceful coexistence. Although classical theories of urban governance emphasize concepts such as public participation, transparency, and spatial justice, these frameworks appear to require context-sensitive revisions when applied to multicultural metropolises like Ahvaz. Accordingly, the main question is: Which indicators of good governance can sustainably manage ethnic and cultural tensions in Ahvaz? Focusing on Ahvaz, this article employs a descriptive-analytical method, relying on survey and documentary data, to identify and rank the most influential good governance indicators in managing ethnic and cultural tensions. The results of the Friedman ranking test indicate that, in order, the three indicators of transparency, rule of law, and consensus hold the highest ranks among the good governance indicators affecting ethnic and cultural management in the metropolis of Ahvaz. Based on the findings, given the nature of ethnic issues in Ahvaz, it appears that emphasizing the multicultural city framework and its factors could facilitate the effective management of ethnic and cultural tensions while advancing toward good governance indicators in this metropolis
